Do you have a play script you’d like to get some feedback on? I’m currently offering a free script report and follow-up meeting for 2 writers.
I am particularly interested in supporting underrepresented writers and anyone struggling to break into writing for theatre. I can bring lived experience to discussions as a disabled person who is also part of the LGBTQ+ community.
My experience and areas of interest:
I have over 10 years’ experience of working in writer development. I have worked as a reader for New Writing North’s C4 TV Writing Awards for 3 different production companies and for Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland’s National Script Reading Service.
I’ve had short plays and extracts featured at Live Theatre and RSC’s Open Stages, as well as a rehearsed reading of full-length play at Offbeat Festival.
I’ve undertaken a range of theatre workshops and development opportunities over the years, including a Playwriting course at Moniack Mhor (with Simon Stephens and Chris Thorpe) and In Motion Theatre Company’s fantastic Write Lines Course.
What I can offer:
- A script report on a short extract of your stage play or a full-length short script (up to 10 pages).
- The report will include: your strengths as a writer and what currently works in the script, areas you may wish to work on and questions to explore as you develop your project. Please let me know if there are any other specific areas you’d like me to cover.
- A short follow up meeting to discuss the feedback and your next steps (up to 40 minutes).
- I would ask for a short testimonial I can use on my website in return.
My approach is rooted in encouragement and opening a dialogue, giving you things to think about and creating a space for you to reflect and grow as a writer. I’m led by your goals and what you want to explore and achieve with your work.
I love watching an idea grow and take exciting, often unexpected shape as a project develops. I know how important it is for writers to have a safe and dedicated space for creative conversations.
Ultimately, I want to fuel your creativity, build your confidence and leave you feeling excited about your project!
How to apply:
Writers at any stage are welcome to get in touch, as long as you have a play idea or script in development.
Stage work only please, no film, television or prose.
I won’t be able to look at any material outside of the page limit, mostly to make sure I can give my full attention to your work.
If you are interested in a script report, please drop me an email with a couple of lines to introduce yourself and the play you’d like to get feedback on.
If I receive more interest than I can support, I’m happy to pop people on a waiting list.
Please get in touch if you have any questions!
Testimonial
‘Lynsey’s eye for form, voice, and literary convention seem instinctual. When I approached her regarding an evaluation of my work-in-progress novel, I knew that I would receive an insightful and balanced critique. And I received far more than that; her thoughtful analysis reminded me why I started writing in the first place, and her targeted feedback reinvigorated my drive to complete this project. It was evident that not only had Lynsey examined my extract thoroughly, but she had given considerable thought to the world in which my story and characters exist. I revisit her suggestions on character motivation, plot, and narrative structure frequently for their power to untangle all of the threads and set me back on track with the story I desire to tell.’
